RFR 2016 Recap

Roots Family Reunion 2016
Roots Family Reunion 2016
Roots Family Reunion 2016

Day One– After two years of waiting and planning, the Roots Family Reunion version 2016 begun with a blow-out party at the host home in the Chicago suburb of Bloomingdale. The Chicago Roots- Jess, Patti, Alexa and Simone, put on a spread to beat the band. Expanding on an Italian theme, they provided a variety of delectable appetizers that were “molto bene”. That was followed with excellento dishes of shrimp with pasta, Italian sausage with peppers, pasta salad and a “salad” salad. Patti’s Mom has this picked eggplant dish that was simply marvelous. The pièce de résistance was the many superlative desserts (lemon cookies were outstanding). It was an unusually cool night, especially for early July, but we kept warm by the outdoor fire pit.

The evening started with the usual stop at the hospitality suite. It was well stocked with spirits, wine and water, though (constructive criticism) pretzels was the only snack in sight. With dinner 4 to 5 hours away, A Roots member brought a couple of pizzas to tide over the hungry horde arriving from near and far until dinner was served later that evening.

There was a little bit of confusion about what “transportation” in the Itinerary meant. The host home was just out of range of the hotel shuttle (and a $1.90 toll), so transport implied carpooling over to the house. With a little negotiating, (thanks Mike) a ride was available for everyone. Through the miracle of GPS everyone was able to find the house easily.

All and all, it was a blast!
The Roots Family Reunion 2016- back, and better than ever.

Transportation from O’Hare or Midway Airports

For those of you flying into O’Hare or Midway Airports and not wanting to rent a car, my contact suggest the following transportation:

Depending on airport, fares will range from $31.00 – $39.00. Your drop-off location is Marriott Suites, Downers Grove, IL

DO NOT catch a Yellow Cab…they’re registered in the City of Chicago and their rates DOUBLE when driving to the suburbs.

Just trying to make it Easy…Please let me know if you have any questions.

Memories of Chicago 2000

As we return to the scene of the 2000 Windy City Reunion, I have so many wonderful memories of that event. Starting with Patti being so choked up, (or ready to choke someone) that I volunteered Chicago as the 2000 RFR location (while she was napping)… Sergio (Patti’s brother) introduced Luisa as his new “friend”… us riding into the City on a tour bus, and Carmen acting as the RFR history game show host… the impromptu private tour of N’Namdi Gallery Chicago… and who can ever forget the great Cosmopolitan Caper at the restaurant, and passing of the hat for a rather substantial bill:) Join the conversation, what do you remember about the last time we were in Chicago? Share some of your favorite memories!
Love to all and can’t wait to see you!

Host Message

How Time Fly’s

Hello Roots Family & Friends,
My-my, how time flies! It was a short time ago we gathered in the lobby of the Cleveland Hilton and chose Chicago as the site of the 2016 RFR! We (Patti, Alexa, Simone and I) are looking forward to hosting this years RFR and if initial responses are any indication, it’s going to be a very well attended reunion.
Speaking of responses (how’s that for a segue) it’s the time of truth of who will…and won’t, be attending…the reunion cost.
Understanding times are tough and accepting the challenge for fiscal responsibility, the Chitown RFR crew is scoffing at inflation indexes, saying “NO” to price increases and will hold the line at the rate established in Cleveland…$110.00/per person! But wait, that’s not all…the RFR cost is FREE for anyone wearing a diaper and can sit on their parents lap!
Your $110.00 will cover the cost of our traditional Friday night welcome feast, hospitality suite and Saturday night dinner. Keeping with our theme of making everything “EASY” the Saturday night’s dinner will be hosted at the hotel….”it’s gonna be HUGE…we’re building a great big beautiful event…my people know how to get things done!
As those of you who have hosted in the past can attest, your prompt attention and payment is GREATLY appreciated.
There have been a total of 11 rooms reserved so far for the RFR 2016. Hotel details:
– $99.00/night…rate is effective Thursday, June 30, 2016 thru Sunday, July 3, 2016…come a bit earlier stay a tad later
– Includes continental breakfast for two people daily
– Free in room wifi
– Free transportation to Oak Brook Mall for the best in shopping and to the local Train Station for a convenient and stress free ride into downtown Chicago.
PLEASE make your reservation now using the link below. It’s important we get an accurate head count for dinner, hospitality suite and scheduling of rooms.
